Duo wearing tin foil spacesuits busted in NASA scam

Delhi, we have a problem.

A father and son duo from India conned a businessman — by wearing fake spacesuits made out of tin foil — telling him they had a deal with NASA and sold rare space equipment that could generate electricity from thunderbolts, according to reports.

Virender Mohan Brar, 56, and his son Nitin Mohan Brar, 30, were busted by Indian police after trying to convince the victim, Narender Saini, to buy a copper plate for 14.3 million rupees — or $213,000, according to Sky News.

The spacey duo made up an out-of-this-world tale that the special piece of metal had the properties to draw electricity from thunderbolts and could be used to pull rice toward it.

They claimed Saini could then sell the metal to NASA for a $5 billion, if tests proved the device was successful.

Saini complained to police about the pair — who were forced to wear the silver spacesuits at a press conference announcing the charges, the Telegraph reported.

The pair told Saini he was paying for the “anti-radiation” spacesuits that would be used during testing, the victim told police.

Police said the “rice puller” device was fake and that the cunning couple coated the copper plate with “liquid magnet” and small iron wires to make it look like the real deal.

“They take a copper plate or utensil and coat it with liquid magnet, and then fill some boiled rice with small iron filings and fool the victim by pulling the rice grain towards the magnet-coated copper article,” said Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of Delhi Police’s crime branch.

Police said they recovered copper plates, anti-radiation suits and anti-radiation chemical stickers, as well as a laptop, printer, foreign checkbooks, fake IDs and an Audi, according to the Indian Express.

Saini wasn’t their only victim. Police said the Brars also conned at least 30 people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The father and son were also once arrested for allegedly selling rare snakes in Dehradun that they claimed had medicinal properties.
